Your vet's guide to fireworks week

Fireworks week, forecast for your clients.

A free, local July 4 page with your practice's name on it: whether fireworks are legal in your clients' city, when the noise starts, what to do two weeks out, and who takes in lost pets. One link for the reminder tool you already use. Paid for by clearly labeled sponsors, never by you or your clients.

Your practice's 2027 edition, free.

Join early access for the July 2027 season. We're starting in California. In spring 2027 we'll send you a draft of your practice's page to check, and in mid-June a permanent link and a QR poster to send through the tool you already use.

Would you send your practice's edition to your clients in June 2027?

The founding sponsor seats, 2027.

Season one has one sponsor seat per category, starting with calming and noise aversion. Seats are priced per participating practice and come with a reach report after the season. Request the sponsor brief and we'll email you the season plan and terms.

Ask your vet first.

If fireworks frighten your pet, the most useful thing you can do is call your vet two weeks before the Fourth, while there's still time to plan. Fireworks Forecast is sent by veterinary practices to their own clients. Leave your ZIP and we'll email you once, in June 2027, if a guide is ready for your area.

No. 2 · Every June

Every June, the same week.

The calls start in the last week of June: dogs that shake at every bang, owners asking for something to help, refills requested the day before the Fourth. Most practices answer with one post on social media and a reminder that goes out late.

The material that exists is either national or from a single brand. A national safety page can't tell a client in Downey that backyard fireworks are allowed in their city and banned in other parts of the county, or that a lost dog there goes to a different shelter from the one with the city's name on it.

Fireworks Forecast is the local page, with your practice's name on it, that you send once in mid-June and that works on every client's phone.

“Nearly one-in-five lost pets goes missing after being scared by the sound of fireworks, thunderstorms or other loud noises.”

Sample edition

Sample Street Animal Hospital is a fictional practice. The local facts are real and linked to their sources; each year's details are confirmed in June.

Fireworks week in Downey, CA 90241

Is it legal here?

Downey is one of the Los Angeles County cities where "Safe and Sane" fireworks are permitted, so expect backyard noise as well as public shows. In the county's cities that don't permit them, and in all unincorporated areas, all fireworks are illegal.

When the noise starts

State-licensed stands may sell "Safe and Sane" fireworks from noon on June 28 until noon on July 6. In cities that allow them, plan for noise across that whole stretch, not just one night.

Public shows nearby

Each June, this space lists the public displays within a few miles of your ZIP, with dates and times taken from each city's own announcement. In this sample it shows the format only.

Two weeks out

  1. Two weeks beforeIf fireworks have frightened your pet before, ask your vet about a plan now, while there's time to try it.
  2. One week beforeCheck that your pet's microchip is registered to your current phone number, and that the collar tag can be read.
  3. A few days beforeSet up a quiet room: windows closed, curtains drawn, familiar bedding and some steady background sound.
  4. On the nightWalk dogs before dark. Keep pets indoors, and check gates and doors whenever guests come and go.
  5. The morning afterWalk your yard for fireworks debris before letting pets out.

If your pet runs

In Downey, lost and found pets are handled by SEAACA, the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority, not by the county's Downey Animal Care Center. Call your microchip registry, then call your vet when they open.

Tell us your practice name, city, holiday hours, nearest 24-hour emergency hospital and booking link.

  2. Check your edition.

In spring we send a draft of your page, built for your city, so you can correct anything before it goes live.

  3. Send one link in June.

Paste it into PetDesk, Weave, Shepherd or your own email or text tool, and print the QR poster for the front desk.

  • A two-weeks-out checklist reviewed by a veterinarian, in which every medical step says "ask your vet"
  • Your holiday hours, your nearest emergency hospital and your booking link

No. 7 · Questions

Questions practices ask.

Is this live?

Not yet. The first editions are planned for July 2027, starting in California. Early-access practices get a draft of their page in spring 2027 to check before anything goes live.

What does it cost the practice?

Nothing. Labeled sponsors pay for the season. There's no contract, and you can leave at any time.

Do you see or contact our clients?

No. You send your link through your own reminder tool or email, to clients who already hear from you. We never receive your client list and we never email your clients.

Who are the sponsors, and what do they get?

Season one has one sponsor per category, starting with calming and noise-aversion products. A sponsor gets one block on the page, labeled "Sponsor", and an after-season report with totals by county. Sponsors don't write, edit or approve the guide, and they never see client details. If you'd rather not run a season's sponsor, tell us before June and we'll leave your practice out of that season.

Does the page give medical advice?

No. It gives general safety steps, and every medical step ends in "ask your vet". It names no medicines and gives no doses. A veterinarian reviews the guide's text each year.

How do you know the local rules?

Each June we check each city's own fire department or county pages and link the source next to every fact. Rules change: Livermore banned all consumer fireworks for 2026, for one. If something on your page looks wrong, you can correct it before it goes live.

Which practices can join?

Small-animal practices in California first, starting with Los Angeles County and the Bay Area. Practices in other states can join the list, and we'll tell you when your state opens.

Is it only for July 4?

July 4 is the first edition. Later, the same link can carry a New Year's Eve edition and a spring parasite-season edition, and each one is optional.

Be in the first edition.
