Done-for-you family cookbooks

Turn the family recipe box into a hardcover cookbook, handwriting and all.

Photograph the cards with your phone. We type every recipe, design the book with each original card printed right beside it, and ship the hardcover to your door. From $149, US shipping included.

We're opening our first books to a small group of founding families this fall. Reserving is free. No payment today.

The recipe box can only live in one kitchen.

Everyone wants it. Brothers, sisters and cousins all remember the same cake. But there is one box of cards, and it sits in one house.

The cards won't last forever. Ink fades, cards get splattered, and one flood or move can take the whole box.

Typing them up takes evenings. And a typed list loses the part that makes you stop and smile: the handwriting you'd know anywhere.

Three steps, and you never mail the originals

  1. Snap and upload

Photograph each card, front and back, with your phone and upload them through a simple link. Add a cover photo and a short dedication if you like.

  2. Check your proof

Within 7 days you get a digital proof of the whole book. Anything we couldn't read for sure is highlighted, and you send one round of corrections.

  3. Open the box

Approve the proof and we print your hardcover on demand and ship it to your door, plus any extra copies straight to relatives.

Every recipe, twice

Each recipe page shows a photo of the original card, stains, notes in the margin and all, with a clean typed version underneath that's easy to cook from. Nothing gets lost in translation, because the original is right there.

  • An 8.5 x 11 in hardcover with a printed matte cover and full-color pages
  • Your choice of three cover styles, with an optional family photo

  • Short notes under any recipe ("Aunt Jo doubled the butter")

Questions

Do I have to mail you the original cards?

No. You photograph them with your phone and upload the photos. The originals never leave your house.

What if the handwriting is hard to read?

That's the usual case. Software makes the first pass and a person checks every recipe against your photo. Anything we can't read for sure is highlighted in your proof so you or a relative can tell us what it says. And because the card itself is printed on the page, nothing is lost.

What does the book look like?

An 8.5 x 11 in hardcover with a printed matte cover in one of three styles, full-color pages, a dedication page, a table of contents and an index. Each recipe page shows the original card with the typed recipe below it.

How long does it take?

You'll get a digital proof within 7 days of sending your photos, or within 3 business days with Rush proof. After you approve it, printing and delivery usually take 2 to 3 weeks.

Can I send copies to different relatives?

Yes. Add extra hardcovers for $49 each and give us a US address for each one. We ship them directly, so you don't have to repackage anything.

Can I add photos and stories?

Yes. Every book can include a cover photo, a dedication of up to 80 words, and a short note under any recipe. Longer stories and extra photo pages aren't part of the flat price yet; tell us in the notes if you want them.

What happens to my photos?

We use them only to make your book. We delete your photos and book files 90 days after delivery unless you ask us to keep them for reorders, and we never use your family's recipes in our marketing without your written permission.

What if I change my mind?

Reserving costs nothing. After you pay, you can cancel for a full refund any time before we start your proof. If a book arrives damaged or misprinted, we replace it at no cost.

Keep the recipes. Keep the handwriting.
