Band Sub-Day Rehearsal Kits Get early access
Early access · For middle school band directors

Sub day doesn’t have to be a lost rehearsal.

Recorded rehearsal kits for beginning band. Your sub presses play, a calm recorded voice leads warm-ups, rhythm reading and a unison tune, and your students play their instruments the whole period. Parts for every section and a no-tech backup are included.

Single kit $12 · Five-kit set $39 · Free to join, no payment now

Most band sub plans put the instruments away.

  • The sub plans you can buy are mostly worksheets, videos and music-history lessons. Useful, but your band doesn’t play.
  • Your sub may never have held a clarinet. Asking them to run warm-ups isn’t fair to them or to your students.
  • Writing a rehearsal plan a non-musician can run takes longer than the day you’re missing.
  • And you still need a plan B for the day the speaker won’t connect.

How it works

  1. Step Leave the kit

Print the parts and the one-page run sheet, and put the audio on a phone, tablet or laptop.

  2. Step Your sub presses play

A recorded rehearsal voice welcomes the band, counts off and leads every exercise, while a student leader you choose decides when to repeat a section.

  3. Step Read the report

Your sub fills in a short feedback form, so you know exactly what the band worked on.

What your sub hears: a sample rehearsal

What’s in every kit

Guided rehearsal audio

About 35 to 40 minutes of MP3 tracks: a recorded voice explains each exercise, counts off and plays along.

Parts for every section

Flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone sax, trumpet, horn in F, trombone, baritone/euphonium (bass and treble clef), tuba, and percussion (snare and mallets).

One-page sub run sheet

What to press, when to press it, where the student leader stands, and what to do if a track ends early.

Student-leader card

A simple card for the student you pick to call repeats and keep sections on task.

No-tech backup lesson

A reading with questions and an answer key, for days without a speaker or when instruments stay in their cases.

Sub feedback form

A quick checklist your sub fills in, so you come back knowing how it went.

All exercises and melodies are original or public domain, written for these kits.

Questions

Does my sub need to read music?

No. The recorded voice does the teaching: it explains each exercise, counts off and plays along. Your sub presses play, follows the one-page run sheet and keeps the room on track.

What equipment does the room need?

Anything that plays an MP3 (a phone, tablet or laptop) connected to a speaker loud enough for the band to hear. If that isn’t possible, use the no-tech backup lesson that comes with every kit.

Which instruments are covered?

Flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone sax, trumpet, horn in F, trombone, baritone/euphonium in bass and treble clef, tuba, and percussion (snare and mallets). Everyone plays the same music in unison, so it works with any mix of instruments.

Does it follow my method book?

It doesn’t use any method book’s exercises. Every exercise and melody is original or public domain, and covers fundamentals most first-year bands work on, so it fits alongside whatever book you use.

What if I don’t want instruments out with a sub?

That’s your call, and every kit respects it. The run sheet has an “instruments stay in cases” option that sends your sub straight to the no-tech backup lesson.

What level is it for?

First-year band, roughly grades 5 to 8. Each kit covers one class period of about 35 to 40 minutes, split into short tracks so a class can repeat or skip ahead.

When can I get it?

We’re building the first kits now and haven’t set a date. Early-access members get the free sample first and hear as soon as the kits open.

Can my school pay?

We’re planning for school purchasing. If you’d need a purchase order, mention it in the form and we’ll follow up.
